Mysticism and the Occult

Along the seekers journey they will become aware of different dimensional worlds. This awareness will likely be passed on through knowledge however its confirmation comes experientially. It can be a very exciting time as up until that point one may have only been aware of a physical and linear reality. Having said that, just like the physical world, other dimensions are not the absolute reality and so one must develop a sophistication of understanding that other dimensions are not to be made more special than the one we are in; for although it is different to what is familiar on earth it is still another form of manifest or content.

The truth is that our soul incarnated on this planet — in this dimensional world — at this time because it is what offered our soul the maximum karmic processing and evolutionary growth based on the energetic quality that it is. Everything that one needs to evolve at this time is abundantly supplied in this dimension. The reason why many are enamoured by other-worldly dimensions is because they believe it offers knowledge and awareness into the mysterious unknowns of life. This is seductive to those who remain in the duality of the mind; who believe that truth exists in content or form based realities. In many cases, it becomes a hindrance to the realization of [true] Self.

There are forms of magic that have been traditionally practiced on earth to connect with other dimensional realms. Among the most popular are mediumship, channeling, tarot readings, and the use of other divination tools. In earlier stages of spiritual evolution one may feel drawn to this type of guidance but as discernment reveals itself with greater profundity within that attraction falls away. Having said that, many people will spend lifetimes chasing other dimensions and involving their minds with the occult while here on earth confusing that as a pathway to enlightenment. Although that would be one’s karma — and would ultimately be serving one’s process in ways that can not be simply stated here — much of that involvement is actually a diversion from enlightenment and what spiritual truth is.

Along the pathway of mysticism there will be many experiences that the seeker will not understand. And they are likely to explore many alternative avenues of knowledge to understand those experiences. In this article those alternative avenues of knowledge, which usually have to do with the metaphysical nature or spirit-based nature of life, will be generalized as the occult.

The occult is real, and at a certain point insightful, but it can become a very seductive trap as its mystical or metaphysical knowledge can appeal to the ego which desires power, superiority, and control. It traps many spiritual seekers by keeping their evolution entrapped within astral domains. Really, conscious involvement with the occult usually has less to do with ones spirituality and more to do with an interest in magic; which is more so backed by an intention of personal gain or empowerment.

Now, experiences such as journeying out of body, astral projection, enhanced perception, spiritual visions, etc…are inevitable along the path of the mystic; those who seek truth within. And so at certain times the exposure to occult knowledge may help one understand what is occurring and develop discernment within new paradigms of reality. But that is different than becoming consumed by the occult and devoting ones life to acquiring mystical powers. As discernment grows within the seeker it becomes more clear how one must transcend their attraction to the occult if they wish to ascend to a greater enlightenment.
